On your mark, get set, duck! On Sept. 22, more than 1,000 plastic ducks will race 150 yards down Big Creek along Oxbo Road during The Great Duck Race – an annual fund-raiser that supports Keep Roswell Beautiful.

Roswell Mayor Jere Wood will send the ducks downstream around 12:45 p.m. as the grand finale to the 22nd Annual North Fulton Rivers Alive Festival and River Cleanup, an event that focuses on keeping our community’s waterways clean for local wildlife and recreation through volunteer efforts to help remove litter and debris from the Chattahoochee River and surrounding areas.

“The Great Duck Race is a fun way to celebrate the beautiful waterways that run through the city while enjoying a little friendly competition,” said Janet Liberman, environmental programs manager for the city of Roswell and executive director of Keep Roswell Beautiful. “It’s the perfect family event and we look forward to hosting it every year.” 

Blue, pink and yellow ducks can be rented for $3 each or three for $5 at Alive After 5 on Sept. 20 or at Roswell City Hall, Suite 235.

The first place winner of The Great Duck Race will receive $100; the second place winner will receive $50. A third place duck will also be chosen in case the first or second place winner does not claim his prize.

Duck renters do not have to be present to win. Winners will have 48 hours to claim their prize after notification.
