AJT Publisher Resigns

In wake of the fallout from his comments about assassinating U.S. President Barack Obama, Andrew Adler, owner and publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times, will sell the print publication, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA).

The comments in his Jan. 13 editorial, “What would you do?” proposed the potential assassination of President Barack Obama among two other options Isreal might consider for its protection. But Adler told several media outlets, including Gawker.com, that he regreted his comments and "wasn't advocating for Obama's assasination."

The controversy even and had Roswell resident and publisher of AtlantaJewishNews.com, Marcy Levinson-Brooks, putting out fires she didn't start after recieving angry correspondance intended for The Atlanta Jewish Times.

Earlier today, the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta said it would suspend its relationship publication until Adler removed himself from the newspaper's operations and promised to sell the weekly, according to the JTA. Adler has named staff writer John McCurdy as interim managing editor for now.

Detlev Burmeister commented on Roswell Patch that it was, "quite ironic that a member of the Jewish community would condone such actions, when the Jewish community itself was faced with genocide during the Holocaust." Local Rabbi Fred Greene commented, "There is a tremendous consensus of how Mr. Adler abused his position as an owner and publisher of a historic and (once upon a time) important Jewish publication."
