Budding Artists Sought to Recreate Roswell Historic District

Randall-Paulson Architects is hosting a special historic streetscape art session to immortalize the city through young eyes on July 27.

A local architectural firm is set to capture a part of history for future generations via the talents of Roswell's youth.

When he learned of a class project in which students were asked to create and assemble a cityscape for a school fundraiser, local architect Alex Paulson was so struck by the piece he bid on it and won. Unsurprisingly, as an architect, Paulson was so enamored by the idea of seeing a city through youthful wonder-filled eyes, he wanted to pursue it further.

But instead of creating just any old city, why not ask local youth to artistically capture the city they live in? And more specifically, the city's historic district?

That's exactly what Paulson is doing.

His firm, Randall-Paulson Architects is inviting local elementary school age children to be a part of creating a piece of art that will be based upon Roswell's most historic buildings and streets. On a morning in late July, the firm's conference room at the historic Roswell Mill will transform into a place where artistic creativity will flow freely, as students use construction paper and oil pastels to recreate images of local buildings from the Chattahoochee River to Canton Street.

The project will be directed and supervised by Paulson's neice, Katie Jacobs, and the firm's architects. They will furnish art materials and a snack for the group.Β

Once the project is complete, the artists will take a group photo, which will hang on the wall next to the piece, as well as serve as a token of appreciation to take home for each student who participated.

"We’re hoping you can join us for this couple of hours," Paulson wrote to parents in a recent e-mail.

E-mail Alex Paulson if your student plans to attent the special art event, Friday, July 27 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Randall-Paulson Architects is located at 85-A Mill Street, Suite 200 in Roswell. For more information, call 770-650-7558.
