Dibos Captures First LPGA Legends Win in Roswell

The third round for college players in the Judson Collegiate Invitational is Wednesday, July 18 beginning at 8 a.m.

Peruvian native Alicia Dibos has come close to winning many times in recent years at Legends Tour events across the nation. But she finally took home the trophy Monday at the inaugural Judson Invitational held at the Country Club of Roswell in Roswell.

Hosted by LPGA Legend Rosie Jones and featuring a field of 30 Legends, including six Hall of Fame members, the one-day golf event boasted one of the most competitive rosters in the Tour's 11 seasons.

Dibos fired a 68 to take the winner’s check of $15,000 and a special ceramic trophy designed in honor of tournament sponsors Dean and Lauren Judson’s late mother.

"It was a great field," said Dibos. "So for me to be on top of this field at the end of the day is a feeling I can't describe. I'm thrilled to have won and I will be honored to tee it up at the next even as a winner on The Legends Tour."

Runner-up Sherri Steinhauer finished 2 under. Rosie Jones took solo 3rd with a round of 70 on the par 71 course.

In 12 Legends Tour events, Dibos has finished in the top ten eight times.

“This was the first time I really didn’t want to look at the board because I didn’t want to get nervous,” said Dibos. “When I finished with a great 4 on my final hole, I looked at the board and saw that I was on top.”

Dibos went on to say she still felt threatened by Jones who had a shot at eagle on the final hole to tie her, but Jones was 100 yards out and knocked her wedge to 12 feet, falling short.

“Not until Rosie made her par did I finally believe it,” smiled Dibos.

While Monday produced a winner for the Legends tournament, the college golfers playing alongside the professionals have two more rounds to determine a champion. The current leader is Rachel Rohanna who is the only collegiate under par with a first round posting of 70. The third round will be played Wednesday, starting at 8 a.m.

Tickets are $10 at the gate; kids under 17 and military personnel get in free.
