The Fulton County School System recently named Esther Jackson Elementary School's technology specialist, James Stewart, as the district’s 2012-13 School Professional of the Year.

Every spring, each Fulton County school and administrative building is invited to select an employee – other than a teacher – that has made a positive impact on students and contributed to the school or department’s overall success. The individuals are all evaluated, and from them, one overall School Professional of the Year and one overall Support Professional of the Year are named. Both will be recognized at a special luncheon, along with other employees of the year, next fall.

James Stewart – School Professional of the Year

James Stewart has made the seamless integration of teaching, learning and technology his mission during the 23 years he has been with Fulton County Schools.

Beginning as a school technology specialist when the position was first introduced, Stewart advanced to other technology administrative positions over the years, including coordinator for Instructional Technology Training at the district’s central office. His love for being in a school environment never diminished, however, and in 2011 he returned to his original role.

At Esther Jackson Elementary, Stewart helps keep classroom technology working and makes sure that it’s accessible for those who need it. But his principal, Connie Coles, views his work as that of dream-maker.

“In just a few months, Mr. Stewart accomplished my vision for technology at Esther Jackson Elementary,” Coles said. “I dreamed that we would be a school where all students had access to quality lessons that used technology, and my teachers would have the support they needed to be innovative in their classrooms.”
