Fulton County Reallocates Roswell's HUD Funding
Previously unspent HUD funds by the city of Roswell could be reallocated to neighboring cities.
Fulton County has said that $456,878 previously allocated to Roswell will soon be reallocated to other parts of the metro area, including, possibly, the neighboring cities of Mountain Park, Alpharetta and Milton.
The Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department will conduct public meetings regarding a proposed amendment to the county's Annual Action Plan previously approved by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Annual Action Plan is a required document that outlines how Fulton County and its partners propose to spend each year’s HUD allocation. Amendments are allowed and encouraged to ensure that HUD funds are spent quickly and utilized to meet ever-changing community needs.
The FY2007, FY2009 and FY2010 Action Plans submitted to HUD listed the city of Roswell as a recipient of $678,707 HOME Investment Partnership funds with the intended purpose of supporting housing initiatives in Roswell city limits. But, the city only spent $221,829, leaving a total unused balance of $456,878.
The amendment proposes to reprogram the leftover funds to provide gap financing to multi-family housing developments that support the Fulton County Housing and Human Services 2010—2014 Consolidated Plan housing goals, which include increasing transitional housing for families and increases housing for seniors age 55 and older.
The funds will be available through an open application process for non-profits and developers that have demonstrated capacity to improve housing conditions and housing availability in the cities of Milton, Mountain Park, Alpharetta, East Point, Hapeville, College Park, Union City, Fairburn, Chattahoochee Hills, and Palmetto, as well as in unincorporated Fulton County.

City Council had $1,465,000 to be spent on Marta improvements. City Council decided to spend 250K of that on actual Marta improvements like 10 bus shelters and camp stool like seats at 16 stops. 250K was used to complete the pedestrian access across Ga 400 on Holcomb Bridge...but who knows where the rest is being used? Not for Marta and its transit passengers who work /and or live in Roswell.
