UPDATED: GM Rumored to be Taking Over Former UPS Facility

The "technology innovation center"in the former UPS facility could bring 1,000 jobs to Roswell.

Updated Friday, Dec. 21, 2:57 p.m. - UPS closed the doors at the Innoplex facility in Roswell back in 2009, but GM is set to reopen the facility for a technology development center that could bring up to 1,000 jobs to the region.

Roswell City Councilwoman Nancy Diamond said the state's economic development division worked closely with the Roswell Business Alliance in bringing the giant automaker's tech department to town. She credits the tireless work of RBA Executive Director Steve Stroud in making sure the not-so-secret move by GM became a reality.

The Atlanta area is one of several East Coast cities that was considered for a new “information technology innovation center.” GM has only announced two of its four planned facilities. One will be in Austin, TX, and the other in Warren, Mich.

The company most likely will not officially announce any deal reached in Roswell until January. Gov. Nathan Deal is expected to visit Roswell for the big announcement, says Diamond.
