He Said, She Said: Our Roswell Coffee Shop Quest

Roswell Patch Editor Christine Foster and her husband, Michael, examine local life - as we see it. Here's our take on a local coffee shop, what's yours?

Let me just say, I am no coffee aficionado. Go ahead, judge me, I probably deserve it.

Growing up, I much preferred a good cup of tea with honey to coffee. Over the years, I've grown into the need for coffee and have actually begun to appreciate its taste as well. Or perhaps I should say, I love coffee that's been creamed, sugared and maybe even flavored a little. Give me a good cappuccino or latte, with just enough caffeine to get me through the day and I'm happy.

Michael, on the otherhand, is Italian and practically born with his undying love for coffee. Third generation American, he grew up sipping tiny espressos with his grandparents from the time he was in elementary school. They said it would stunt his growth; he's 6'3" now, still gulping cup after cup of sludge-like black coffee.

So you can see how our tastes in coffee differ, just a little. In the coming weeks, we'll visit several local coffee places, where we'll consider taste, temperature, freshness and the aesthetics of the establishment. Here's what we thought of Land of a Thousand Hills, add your own reviews below or to the Roswell Patch business listing:

Land of A Thousand Hills - 352 South Atlanta Street

The quaint coffeeshop sits on a hill, at the edge of the historic district. An old house, segmented into several casual and cozy rooms, the shop is perfectly suited to have a chat with a friend on the sofa while you sip a cup of Joe or commandeer a table to get some work done. Land of a Thousand Hills somehow pulls off light and airy, yet cozy and comforting. Unless you say otherwise, your beverages are served in ceramic mugs.

He Ordered: House Blend (Thai La Mai) with cream.

"It was a very flavorful medium roast coffee, with floral and citrus undertones. Overall, it was a very good cup of coffee, but the atmosphere and the mission of Land of a Thousand definitely add to the experience ."

She Ordered: "Dirty Angel" - a two shot of espresso, with a dallop of fresh whipped cream and a pump of caramel sauce.

"Without the typical amount of cream I usually add and because of the extra shot of espresso, this coffee drink has a bite to it. With the tang of espresso tapered by the heavy froth and sweetness of the fresh whipped cream and smooth caramel, I found it to be intriguing and delicious."

Land of A Thousand Hills is wonderful, great coffee, comfortable atmosphere and genuine cause. But I wish they had better arrangements for parking. Their 6 parking spots are always taken and the big "will tow all coffee house cars" sign in the church parking lot is no comfort.

Yes, it's definitely something that can be a problem, Rand. However, I'm pretty sure the smaller print on that sign details the hours when church parking is not allowed and they seem to be hours the church will be holding services. From what I could tell, all other times are okay to park. Anyone else notice the specifics?

No parking at the church on Wed or Sunday in the upper lot. If you follow Jones Drive around past the coffee house, then turn onto Church St(it is one way and used to be a driveway) you can enter and park in the lower church parking lot anytime. The walk is 3 mins. Problem solved.
