He Said, She Said: Our Take on Coffee at Roswell's New Plum Cafe

Roswell Patch Editor Christine Foster and her husband, Michael, examine local life - as we see it. Here's our take on a local coffee shop, what's yours?

Recently we've foregone the usual coffee chains whenever possible in order to to sip some java at several local spots so we can share our thoughts with you.

We consider taste, temperature, freshness and the aesthetics of the establishment. Here's what we thought of Plum Cafe, which took over the space formerly belonging to Aunt Kimmy's Creations.

Plum Cafe - 1055 Canton Street, Suite 110

There is plenty to say about the cafe as a whole, but for the purposes of this column, we'll just stick to the basics for now.

Transformed from the fun sweets shop it used to be, Plum Cafe's new owner, Monica Bolsoni, has made a concerted effort to keep the best of the space's former life, while still taking it to the next level as an airy and stylish cafe. The galley layout of the shop is perfect for a business lunch inside, an afternoon gab session in the gazebo with the girls, or - in our case - a Saturday morning cup of coffee on the patio with the family.

Beverages are served in oversized white ceramic mugs. And a coffee condiment bar, with cream, milk, sugar and sweetners, allow customers to fix drinks as they like.

He Ordered: Espresso

As owner Monica Bolsoni, a native of Brazil, ground a fresh batch of the aromatic beans for the double shot drink - something she does for every order - she said the cafe doesn't sell single shots of espresso, "because, what's the point?"

"It reminds me of getting up early and going to get coffee with my grandfather in Miami when I was really young. I can almost picture the little cafe and the way the coffee smelled and tasted. It's really good; very smooth, not bitter."

She Ordered: Cup of coffee, with cream and sugar

"No flavored specialty coffee for me this time. Just a little cream and a packet of raw sugar. It's incredibly smooth coffee, probably owing to the constant upkeep of freshly ground coffee beans by the Plum Cafe staff. Definitely 'good to the last drop.'"
