Holcomb Bridge Hosts 2nd Annual 5K Hustle
The school will partner with the Kyle Pease Foundation to inspire students with disabilities to race.
Holcomb Bridge Middle School and the second-annual Holcomb Bridge Hustle 5K recently announced a partnership with the Kyle Pease Foundation (KPF) during a school-wide assembly.
The Kyle Pease Foundation is a non-profit organization which provides sports-participation opportunities for persons with disabilities. Kyle and Brent Pease shared the mission of their organization with the students and helped to promote this year’s race, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 8 a.m., starting and finishing at Holcomb Bridge Middle School.
Through this partnership, Holcomb Bridge Middle School, its PTA and the race organizers will promote the Kyle Pease Foundation mission to provide assistance for persons with disabilities and to help them meet their individual needs through sports. Kyle Pease, as well as students who are being assisted by KPF, and numerous KPF supporters and volunteers will also participate in this year’s race. Born with cerebral palsy, Kyle Pease completed his first triathlon with his two brothers in 2011. His determination, passion and humor not only inspired the HBMS students at the assembly on Friday to participate in the race, but more than that, he inspired them to reach their goals in life.
Because of the new partnership, several Holcomb Bridge Middle School students with disabilities will be able to participate in the 5K race for the first time. “We are excited to be able to help all students experience the thrill of reaching the starting line and the exhilaration of crossing the finish line,” said Mike Buteau, co-chair of the Holcomb Bridge Hustle 5K and a Holcomb Bridge Middle School parent.
The second annual Holcomb Bridge Hustle 5K will include pre- and post-race festivities, instructor led stretching and warm up, DJ entertainment, post race snacks and beverages, an awards ceremony, corporate sponsor tables from 36 sponsors and more. Over 400 participants, including experienced runners, novice athletes, walkers, families and children of all ages are expected to participate. Police coverage and transportation services will be provided by platinum sponsor, the city of Roswell, which will ensure the event runs smoothly with no major traffic interruptions. Gold sponsors, Echospan, Sports & Family Chiropractic, Kohl’s, Esthetic Dental Solutions and The Kyle Pease Foundation have all contributed to make the event a success, and Big Peach Running Company, whose mission is to encourage running and walking as a lifestyle, is the exclusive athletic partner for the event, providing race numbers, participant bags and promotional support. All proceeds from the event will benefit academic enrichment activities at the school.
“The partnership with the Kyle Pease Foundation is a perfect fit for our school and for this race,” said HBMS Principal Joy Schroerlucke. “Through our Global Classroom initiative and our iCare About Others program, we are devoted to building in our students a passion for being kind and helpful to all to make a difference in the world.”
