East Cobb Resident Meg Fisher Creates Custom Jewish Prayer Shawls

This week our "In Your Business" profile introduces us to Meg Fisher, owner of Elite Tallit.

What is your business and how long have you been doing it?

Elite Tallit, I make custom made tallitot, which is plural for tallit - Jewish prayer shawls. I've been making them for two years. I enjoy working with people to design the tallit of their dreams.

What makes you good at what you do?

I have been sewing for more than 35 years and have a good eye for color and design. I help clients select a fabric, a color of dupioni silk for the trim on the collar and corners; and what blessing they want on the atarah, or collar.  I hand paint the blessing in Hebrew. I can also paint their name in Hebrew and/or English and a date if the tallit is for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah or wedding. I also make wedding canopies, or chuppot, which is plural for chuppah.

How did you end up in this area?

I moved in 2004 from West Cobb to be closer to the Jewish community here.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

My favorite hobby is knitting, but in the past I've also enjoyed quilting and cross stitch.

What new hobbies or classes have you recently taken up?

I am taking painting classes so I can paint my own tallitot.

How do you stay connected to the community?

I am a member of Temple Kol Emeth in East Cobb.

How can people find you?

On my website and on Facebook: Elite Tallit.

Thank you for featuring me but please note, the picture is NOT of tallitot made by me, mine are completely different and I don't do traditional looking ones like this. Meg Fisher
