New Bike Regs at Chattahoochee NRA

The proposal would allow bicycles on new sections of trails at Sope Creek in the Cochran Shoals unit.

A draft regulation allowing bicycles on new sections of trails at Sope Creek in the Cochran Shoals unit of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is now available for comment on the Federal Register until September 30.

"This is part of the standard process for any new federal regulation," said park superintendent Patty Wissinger. "The new regulation basically enacts the bicycle trail use plan that was adopted in the 2010 Environmental Assessment Proposed Trail Connection."

Because the plan proposed to allow bicycles on trails not previously used for that purpose, the park was required to follow the process for creating a new federal regulation. The National Park Service draft regulation primarily focuses on the newly constructed trails at Sope Creek in the Cochran Shoals Unit of the park.

The draft regulation will be available for public comment for the next 60 days on the Federal Register website.
