Police Identify Victim in Saturday Shootings

Sandy Springs Police responded to a complaint of shots fired on Dunwoody Place west of Roswell Road. Twenty minutes later an ambulance was flagged down at the Glenridge Connector to help a man who been shot several times.

Sandy Springs Police have identified the shooting victim picked up by an ambulance on Glenridge Connector, Saturday afternoon, as Rodney Dorsey, 22, of Roswell. He is in serious but stable condition at Grady Hospital.

Twenty minutes before ambulance drivers encountered Dorsey and two other men at a vehicle on the road, police units responded to a complaint of shots fired at the Colonial Grand Apartment area on Dunwoody Place west of Roswell Road. 

A Rural/Metro Ambulance transporting a patient from the Johns Creek area, was flagged down at Glenridge Connector and Peachtree Dunwoody Road by two men -  Alexander Cruz, 21, of Cardigan Circle in Sandy Springs and Darryl Charleton, 22, of Hampton Drive in Sandy Springs. Dorsey was in their car and had been shot several times in the leg. Another ambulance responded and transported Dorsey to Grady Hospital, where he was taken into surgery.

Police say, Cruz was the driver of the car and was slightly injured by one of the gunshots. He was treated and released and is currently being interviewed by detectives. 

Investigators are continuing interviews with witnesses to determine the motive for the shooting.
