Question of the Week: What Do You Expect from the Democratic National Convention this Week?

The Democratic National Convention takes place Sept. 4-6. Will it affect your vote?

The reviews from the Republican National Convention in Tampa last week were expectedly mixed. Some praised its "focus on the philosophy of government and the role of success in our society," others questioned its coverage by certain media outlets, while still others criticized the speeches of certain politicos and their spouses.

Tuesday through Thursday of this week, Sept. 4-6, all eyes turn to Charlotte, N.C. where the Democratic National Convention is expected to make a case for why President Barack Obama should be elected to a second term in the White House.

This brings us to our questions of the week:

What do you expect from the DNC this week, and will it impact your vote, either way?

No question, the President has tremendous progress since taking office. But he knows we need to make even more. We are on the correct path but hindered and hampered by a negative and recalcitrant congress bent on sabotaging his every move for patrician gain. He understands that to keep this country moving we need education, infrastructure investment, research & development ,a rational immigration policy, and a balance in regulations & law. These are the five things that our parents and grandparents invested in before the perversions of trickle down economics(Reagan) and of you can have it all without paying(Bush) .Something that Reagan and especially Bush failed to understand. The Republican strategy offers no hope. Indeed their cynical election tactics proves my point. They will create voter frustration with massive negative ads, voter suppression laws, appealing to the white male "DixieRepublicans" with veiled racists remarks and suggestions. One day this group will wise up to the fact that their interests are not served well by the Republican party. But until then you can read their comments. I will savor a Democratic victory in the fall.

WOW you need to step back....I bet your life was fine growing till 2008? Then you were handed the big stick your using to muddy the waters and hide the truth. The government is not an investor, nor a jobs creator. This administration refused to even make a budget, let alone spends us down the road on paybacks.

First of all, lets be clear. Before anything else, President OBama and the political hacks in his administration care most deeply for their own hides. Power retention comes before country, period. With that on their mind, and because the President has an abysmal record of failure, due to his ideolgy being so far left of mainstream, the strategy for the convention will be more demonizing of his opponent, more promises to his far left supporters who are getting sick of him, and more phony "we care about the middle class" retoric.

Obama has proven himself to be a big talker, and a terrible manager. If he were a manager in the business world, he would have been demoted or fired three years ago.

This is probably so Obama can say "Hey, you didn't get that abortion by yourself! You had government help!"

Zachary, shooting-the-messenger never ever works....especially here, when your claim that this "story is BS" is belied by the fact that it's officially in the DNC Platform!!

"The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports
Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal
abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right."

Why does the tea party want Government out of education and business but into my wife's uterus?

Guy, Where in the Tea Party does it say anything about your wife's uterus? Last I knew their platform was smaller government, lower taxes and stopping the mind blowing, now 16 TRILLION dollar debt. Rather than worrying about your wife's uterus why aren't you worried about the newborn that was just presented with a $50,000 bill upon birth.

4% inflation will take care of that bill nicely - also don't be fooled for a minute, under the small-govt rhetoric, the Tea Party is a theocratic, economicly unhinged group who deify the constitution on the one hand and would let millions slide into poverty and want on the other rather than let Government lift a fingernail to save them - ultimately it's job in a depression.

J. Harvey The Demo Convention will not affect my vote at all. I already was intending to vote for Obama. Now if we can get so sensible people in the House and Senate, maybe the country can make some progress.....

Progress just like Greece and Italy. Riots in France. Gee, hope we can be financially obliterated just like them. Keep spending money we don't have. Obama is working hard to see that happen. 5 trillion in new Obama debt in 4 years. Even the democrats voted down Obama's "budget" for the last 3 years. Yup, success.

I'm personally better off now than 4 years ago. I was unemployed for the first six months of 2009 and since then have got progressively better jobs since. My wife and son have now got health insurance and cannot be discriminated against for pre-existing conditions and the country as a whole has had 23 months of job creation and improvement despite a scorched-earth policy against them in Congress.

Let's not forget where we were at 4 years ago - We were teetering on the edge of a depression brought about not by Government overspending or welfare but by reckless profiteering and speculation by the Banks, the Hedge Funds and the 'too big too fail' Wall Street sector who were first in line with their hands out for a bail out to stop the rest of the economy coming down with them. Obama was made captain of the Titanic AFTER it had struck the iceberg and while the recovery is by no means complete, we have one.

Jah - enough have seen the writing on the wall to amend their discriminatory acceptance practices now.

Truthseeker - The law doesn't cut medicare benefits - it slows the growth of the program by reducing payments to Medicare Advantage the PRIVATE insurance alternative to Medicare and ties reimbursement to performance. I thought performance related pay was popular n the right of the aisle, rather than cutting doctors a blank check? Also the savings are used to help pay for other parts of the law such as free healthcare screenings for kids and pregnant women.

Senator Ryan on the other hand plans to overturn the ACA but somehow, magically preserve the savings. And did I mention that he wants to replace medicare and medicaid with a non-inflation linked voucher scheme?

You keep telling yourself and all the other Obama Kool aid drinkers it doesn't cut benefits.

"With cuts to Medicare reimbursement for doctors targeted under the federal health care overhaul, the shortage is likely to get even worse, said Mark Pauly, professor of health care management at the University of Pennsylvania.
If the Medicare cuts go through, "the doctors are saying: "We're out of here,"' Pauly said. "The least they are saying is: `We'll treat Medicare patients like we treat Medicaid patients,' which is mostly not."

Another story
In late 2009 the highly respected Mayo Clinic grabbed national headlines when it announced that one of its primary-care centers was no longer accepting Medicare. Henceforth, Medicare patients visiting its family clinic in Glendale, Arizona would have to pay cash. In 2008 Mayo lost $120 million on Medicare patients at all of its Arizona facilities. At the Glendale clinic, Medicare had covered only about half of the clinic's expenses for treating the elderly.

When physicians limit their exposure to Medicare by either dropping out of the program or restricting the number of Medicare patients they treat, it seldom receives any press coverage beyond local media, if it receives any coverage at all. Nevertheless, physicians' growing reluctance to accept Medicare patients is becoming a serious problem. If this budding crisis has an epicenter, it appears to be Texas. "Texas Doctors Fleeing Medicare in Droves," blared a Houston Chronicle headline. Data compiled by the newspaper found that Texas physicians were dumping Medicare at a rate of about 100 to 200 per year.2 In 2010 a Texas Medical Association survey found that 18 percent of the state's physicians were restricting the number of Medicare patients they treated, while 16 percent were no longer seeing new Medicare patients."

Apparently BCBS of Georgia hasn't gotten that memo yet. They are by far the largest provider in Georgia, so your stipulation still fails.

With $700 billion cut from medicare, good luck finding a doctor who will take medicare patients. Who cares? Screw the SS crowd. You're doing well and that's all that matters. Obama bundler pals raking in billions in taxpayer loans, going bankrupt and showing up at the DNC. Who cares you're doing well and that's all that matters.

. . . then why did we re-elect George W. Bush in 2004? Because he kept us safe on 9/11? Because he squandered the surplus Clinton handed to him with tax cuts, created the deficit we have now with two wars he couldn't pay for and got us into the financial mess Obama is currently getting us out of?

Clinton said it best: the Republicans want to fire Obama for not cleaning up the mess they made fast enough.

I am one of those undecided voters. I watched Ryan, Ann Romney, and Romney at the Republican Convention. Even saw Clint Eastwood. They all sound genuine in their beliefs. I found some things lacking in that none of them said what they are actually going to do to turn our economy around. I am watching the Democratic Convention and have heard The Twins from Texas, Michelle Obama, and Bill Clinton.
They all sound genuine in their beliefs. Clinton says that our U.S.A. hit its bottom and now is gradually crawling out of the bottom. I can see some things are getting better. I sincerely hope that each side (Republicans And Democrats) will work for what is best for Our Country and not what is best for their party. I hope media people will spell out what various things mean. I do not want our people in U.S.A. to rush to judgement on anything. I hear good things and bad things about Obamacare.
I hope the media will explore exactly what Obamacare does for the American People and where does the money come from to pay for it. Show it all- do not rush to print.
What would happen if we do indeed scrap it? What is different about Romneycare in Massachussetts and Obamacare for the U.S.A. Does Obamacare stop at age 70?

What we ended up with is what I expected. Lots of untruths and confusion. They can't even take a vote correctly. Clinton spoke to take your minds off of Obamas horrible failures over the past 4 years. If you lost your home, don't have a job, can't pay your taxes, your healthcare is expensive, your company laid you off and the national debt is 16 trillion and your children will be paying China forever, it's all due to OBAMA and his personal agenda.
