Roswell OKs Local Firm to Design Logo

A new logo, tagline and vision statement will be part of the city's marketing plan targeted for launch in January 2012.

Roswell’s hopes of pushing economic development with the creation of its own brand and a new marketing strategy, took a step forward on .

The Roswell City Council agreed to hire the local design firm to develop ideas for a logo - at zero cost to the city.

Behind the plan to develop a marketing plan - including a logo, tagline and vision statement - is the desire to make the city more business-friendly. The tagline of "This is living! This is Roswell." is supposed to show Roswell as an attractive lifestyle city with parks, a river, a historic downtown and much more.

Council member Nancy Diamond started advocating a branding strategy for Roswell when she joined the city council in January of 2010.

“We weren’t telling our story,” Diamond said. “We are so marketable. There is [no city] with any more assets than we’ve got. We can’t afford not to be business friendly. When you unify the message, you unify the people behind the message.”

The tagline was approved by the city council a year ago. The waterwheel logo that currently adorns signs, offices and city vehicles will not be thrown out, instead, it will be incorporated into the new plan.

The new tagline and logo will be presented to a city council committee in September. The hope is to have the logo, tagline and marketing plan ready to go at the same time the city’s economic development plan is completed in January 2012.

“We know we won’t become the new headquarters for NASA,” Diamond said. “But we want to know what businesses we should be more aggressive about attracting.”
