There are several things Roswell is known for, among them: parks, history and restaurants. So is it really any wonder the Historic Merchants Association decided to market the latter to its full potential by hosting the first ever Roswell Restaurant Week in January?
"The idea is obviously not new, but with the number of restaurants in the historic Roswell, it just makes sense for us to have one," Sally Johnson, with the Historic Merchants Association, told Roswell Patch.
The event, which is already generating buzz on local food blogs, will take place Jan. 14-22 and is limited to restaurants within the historic district, according to Johnson.
Already, 13 restaurants have signed on to participate, including:
- Fickle Pickle
- The Roswell Tap
- Table & Main
- Nine Street Kitchen
- Salt Factory
- Inc Street Food
- Diesel Pizza
- Party Chic
- Oak Street Cafe
"We really would like for those not as familiar with what historic Roswell has to offer come out for restaurant week," said Johnson, who mentions the event logo, “Enjoy. Eat. Explore.”
So, how does a restaurant week work? According to Johnson, each participating restaurant will offer a $15 prix-fixe menu for lunch and a $25 prix-fixe menu for dinner. Each menu will be determined by the individual restaurant and include three courses. Restaurants that generally take reservations will continue to take them.
Organizers are hoping the week not only sparks local interest during a time of year that restaurant patronage is typically down, but also to draw diners from the other areas which have restaurant weeks, such as Midtown, Buckhead, Decatur and Atlanta.
"We selected a mid-winter month when restaurants are not generally busy so that it might be an economic boost for them in an otherwise slow time," Johnson said.
