Roswell's Plum Cafe Hosts Benefit Dinner for Devastated Breezy Point, NY
Reservations for the fundraiser must be made in advance.
Hurricane Sandy would have been considered devastating had it hit anytime throughout the year, but its aftershock is especially felt at the holidays.
To help some families up North during this arduous rebuilding process, Roswell's Plum Café will host a benefit fundraiser on behalf of the residents of Breezy Point, NY. The small Queens suburb was devastated by the hurricane when, after being flooded by rushing waters, fires destroyed 110 homes. The community is home to many families of firefighters, EMTs and police officers who commute and work in Manhattan daily.
"With this fundraiser, we hope to make the community’s holidays easier in some small way," the local cafe owners said in a statement.
The special fundraising event will take place Saturday, Dec. 1 from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. One hundred percent of the $45 per person donation will go to the Breezy Point community. With the donation, guests who've made a reservation will enjoy the following menu:
Starters -
- New England Clam Chowder
- Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
- Generational Portuguese Soup
Sides -
- Roasted Garlic Hummus
- Red Quinoa w/Beets, Carrots, & Cauliflower (GF)
- White Quinoa Tabouli (GF)
Entrees -
- Mediterranean Mussels
- Traditional New England Lobster Rolls
- Assorted “Plum Cafe Signature Sandwiches” (including Chicken Heart of Palm, Pulled Pork)
Brazilian & Italian Desserts -
- Cassata Custard Dessert
- Assorted Plum Cafe Cookie Favorites
Soft drinks and wine will be available.
"It was [Plum Cafe owner] Monica's idea. They're providing everything," said Doreen Scascitelli, Business Development Director for the Roswell Business Alliance.
Silent auction items donated by local patrons will be up for bid. All culinary creations will be donated by Plum Cafe.
Space is limited so advanced reservations must be made now. Plum Cafe is located at 1055 Canton Street, Suite 110. For more information, contact Plum Cafe owner Monica Bolsoni at 770-518-7586.

Well, thanks to the good folks of Roswell, Georgia! Right now, we need every bit of thoughts and prayers and help we can get. But in time, we will be back. And when we are, you all come up and visit! Come see us. You would love us. It's just the way it's supposed to be. A great American town.
