Roswell Teen Struck by Vehicle During Alive After 5

A Roswell teenager was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite last night after being  hit by a vehicle while crossing Woodstock Road during the city's Alive After 5 event in the historic district. 

According to the report, the 14-year-old boy was struck by the Toyota 4Runner when he crossed in front of oncoming traffic "improperly" on Woodstock Road near the Canton Street intersection.

"He complained of neck pain and he had visible bruises and abrasions," Officer Lisa Holland told Roswell Patch. 

The incident brings up safety issues surrounding the popular event, which is held between April and October on the third Thursday of each month. 

"I love Alive After 5 and really have enjoyed watching it grow as an event in our town but having kids getting hit by cars during this event is not cool," Adriana Hayes posted on the Roswell Patch Facebook wall.

Hayes had some suggestions for the city on how they should better the event through increased safety measures.

"I feel like two things should happen," she wrote. "First, a few more foot/bicycle police to patrol the groups of kids and second, possibly shut down traffic on Canton street during this time. Even as an adult, I found it hard to cross the road when I needed to because people don't stop and people drive too fast. Even the 25 [miles per hour] limit is too fast with all of the people around."

No word yet on how the boy is doing. No one was charged in he accident since the teen was shown at fault.
