Roswell VFW and Scouts Retire Flags

Sen. John Albers helps local Boy Scout Troop 87 and the Roswell VFW Post 7583 retire several U.S. flags.

Caring for the U.S. flag is important and no one knows that better than the Boy Scouts of America.

To properly dispose of old U.S. flags, Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell) recently joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7583 and Boy Scout Troop 87 for a flag retirement ceremony at the William Cobb post located in Roswell.

“It was great to bring together two of my favorite organizations. My son is an Eagle Scout in Troop 87 and I have many great friends at the VFW Post for whom we owe our freedom,” said Albers. “I was very proud to watch the boys interact with the veterans and honor our flags in retirement”.

“This was a terrific event for our community and we look forward to many years of working together with the scouts.  Many of us at the post were scouts and many of these scouts will become veterans one day”, said William Mitiu, commander of the Roswell VFW Post 7583. Mitiu worked directly with Albers and Troop 87 Scout Master John Klustner to schedule the event.

This is the first annual event which will take place the Monday prior to Memorial Day beginning in 2012.  A cookout and community participation will be encouraged.
