Sidewalk Construction Projects Begin in November

The city previously approved a plan to make improvements at four locations.

The city of Roswell will make pedestrian and sidewalk improvements at four locations throughout the city. Travelers may experience delays in the areas with temporary lane closures, however access through the areas will be maintained.

The project consists of improvements at these four locations:

  • Hembree Road: construct a multiuse trail along the south side, from Upper Hembree Road to Elkins Road. Expected start mid-November.
  • Pine Grove Road at Coleman Road: new sidewalks will be constructed along the north side of Pine Grove Road, from Roswell Hills Court to Coleman Road, and along the west side of Coleman Road, from Pine Grove Road to the existing sidewalk. Expected start February 2013.
  • Norcross Street: constructing a new sidewalk along the north side, between Canton Street and Alpharetta Highway. Expected start March 2013.
  • Reconstruct two existing crosswalks at the intersection of Alpharetta Street at Magnolia Street and construct a new sidewalk on City Hall property. Expected start March 2013.

Construction is expected to be complete by April 2013, weather permitting.

These projects will provide approximately 3,570 linear feet of pedestrian improvements, including new or improved crosswalks. Total project cost is $435,981.99 and is funded with the remainder of the MARTA Offset Funds and local funds.

The Canton St and City Hall sidewalks are being constructed with money that was from Marta for improvements to Marta stops and accessability. I think this is a misuse and diversion of funds and the city should be ashamed of themselves for this action against users of Marta. But since of none of them use Marta except to go to an occassional Braves or Falcons game, they see nothing wrong in their actions.
