Roswell's own "Future Star Gymnasts" Kofi Reeves-Miller, 10, Justin Ah Chow, 11, and Patrick Kramer, 12, each qualified to participate in the National Future Stars meet in Colorado Springs, CO during November.
Fifty Region 8 Future Star gymnasts competed at the Roswell Recreation & Parks Gymnastics Center on Oct. 6 to qualify for the National competition.
"The competition in Region 8 is always challenging and we are so proud of our Future Stars, and their coaches, for qualifying for Nationals," said Ben Wood, director of Roswell Men’s Gymnastics Team since 1998. "The dedication and skill of the Roswell Men’s Gymnastics Team always shines through in competitions. We look forward to their success at Nationals in Colorado Springs.”
Reeves-Miller, Ah Chow and Kramer train on six events, twenty hours per week. Their dedication and determination is evident in their gymnastics, as well as academics. All three Future Stars are star students at their elementary and middle schools. The three boys started gymnastics training when they were very young, according to their mothers, who share stories of their sons hanging from banisters and climbing up doorways at an early age.
The three will continue their gymnastics training to the highest level of their potential.
The renowned Roswell Recreation and Parks Gymnastics Center is housed in the Physical Activity Center (PAC) within the Roswell Area Park. The Roswell Area Park was voted number one in the state of Georgia by the Georgia Parks and Recreation Department for eight years in a row. The gym is very well equipped and uses the most professional highest quality equipment, which meets the same standards set forth by the Olympic Committee for use in Olympic competitions.
The Future Stars Program is a select national athlete development and education program. The Future Stars Program consists of five age groups 8-9 year olds, 10 year olds, 11 year olds, 12 year olds and 13 year olds, who perform selected skills and compulsory routines on the six men's events, plus strength and flexibility evaluations. The 8-9 year old division participates up to the Regional level while the 10, 11, 12 and 13 year old divisions can qualify to the National level.
The National Future Stars meet takes place Nov. 8-11 in Colorado Springs, CO.
