Will You Buy Georgia Lottery Tickets Online?

Online ticket sales are expected to begin this fall for Powerball, Mega Millions and Fantasy 5.

Last week, lottery officials approved an online system for selling tickets for the Powerball, Mega Millions and Fantasy 5 Georgia lottery games, as reported by several media outlets.

The new system, which is expected to go into effect in the fall, would require that ticket purchasers be at least 18 years of age and reside in Georgia.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the new system is expected to increase Georgia Lottery revenue by millions and open the lottery to more players.

“I think that is a useful area to explore,” Gov. Nathan Deal told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It does open the participation up to a generation of younger citizens of our state who might not take the time to go to a store to physically purchase a ticket.”

Proceeds from the Georgia Lottery are used to fund the HOPE scholarship program and the state's pre-k program. Since its inception, the Georgia Lottery has provided $13.6 billion to state educational programs.

What do you think? Are online lottery sales a good way to increase lottery funding for education? Will you buy a ticket online? Let us know in the comments.
