Your Views: How Roswell Can Be "Greener"

We asked, Roswell Patch readers answered. Monday we asked you how you would like Roswell to be "greener." Here's a sampling of your responses.

From the ambitious to the readily achievable, from upscale aspirations to the socially conscious, Roswell residents always offer some interesting and sometimes controversial ideas. Here's what you said in response to this week's Community Agenda survey.

What steps have you made to "go green?"

  • None
  • Recycle - Jareda
  • Recycling and composting
  • [Use] more recreation areas

Do you utilize any city sponsored programs or events that promote "green" living? (ie. Bring One for the Chipper, Roswell Recycling Center, etc.)

  • Roswell Recycling Center 'special' days for large items, electronics, etc. We purchased both rain a rain barrel and a compost bin as well.
  • No
  • Yes, I use the recycling center. - Janet
  • Recycling Center, sale of compost bins.
  • No - Jareda
  • No; state sponsored neo-communism.

Are there more opportunities for Roswell to become a "greener" city? Where and how should they be implemented?

  • Yes ,of course...try putting in some flowers, plants, and trees like Alpharetta. It seems as if Roswell is having a love affair with concrete, instead of something beautiful.
  • Yes; more bike trails, maybe golf cart like Peachtree City.
  • Place trash cans all over the city that allow the user to separate waste: cans, paper vs. garbage. - Janet
  • Yes, more education on recycling at home and at school.
  • No - Jareda
  • "Greener" is really "Redder." None should be implemented. Let the market work.

While I am certainly in favor of living in a nice community, and Alpharetta seems to be doing a little bit better job than Roswell, I am not in favor of using tax dollars to "go green". It's amazing how many great ideas are out there -- provided that someone else, i.e., the taxpayers, pays for them. I wonder how many of these great ideas would survive if the promoters had to raise the money privately to fund them.
