DESCRIPTION:Holidays in Dublin\nThe Atlanta Baroque Orchestra under the
direction of Julie Andrijeski joins with the Georgia Tech Chamber Choir
to perform Handel's Messiah in its entirety\, using the scores from Han
del's original production in Dublin\, Ireland in 1742.\nFour of the fine
st Baroque solo singers in the nation are being flown in to perform:\nSo
prano Teresa Wakim (Boston) Alto Katherine Growdon (Boston) Tenor Aaron
Sheehan (Baltimore) Bass Mischa Bouvier (New York) Tickets are $25 at t
he door\, $20 online in advance\, with discounts for groups\, seniors an
d students.\nThis same concert will also be given on Friday\, November 3
0\, at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. Over the centuries\, Messi
ah has become very different than Handel originally intended\, with ext
ra instruments tacked on after the fact\, and larger and larger orchest
ras and choirs. The Atlanta Baroque is taking Messiah back to its roots
\, with the original arrangements and instrumentation\, and a small cho
ir. The ABO and soloists perform the ornamentation and improvised musi
cal turns that were used in Handel's time and which have tended to be d
iscarded by "modern" orchestras and singers. This will be a rare oppor
tunity to hear Messiah\, all two and a half hours of it\, as close to H
andel's original intention as we can get today. Join us!
