As part of the annual Roswell Roots festival, Barrington Hall proudly welcomes Chef Sallie Ann Robinson and the musicians of DrumRise to demonstrate their talents at Barrington Hall on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 11:00AM until 3:00PM with a celebration of West African heritage completely devoted to the sounds, scents, tales and flavors of the area.
Join chef and author Sallie Ann Robinson in the historic home’s kitchen as she prepares her coastal specialties and shares memories of growing up Gullah on South Carolina’s Daufuskie Island. Her vivid stories provide a rich and colorful glimpse into a vanishing way of life. Sample her award-winning cuisine as she incorporates her love of cooking with her lively storytelling for a truly memorable experience.
Then, on the front lawn of the property, tribal drum sounds will reverberate across the yard as the founders of DrumRise demonstrate the drumming techniques they learned from Guinean master drummer Mamady Keita. After a brief lesson, stay and join in the drum circle. You’ll discover that you can learn to drum, even if you’ve never before touched a musical instrument.
Sallie Ann Robinson will be in the kitchen from 11:00AM until 3:00PM while DrumRise provides their drumming demonstration and audience participation from 11:00AM until 1:30PM on the front lawn of Barrington Hall. It’s a day guaranteed to stimulate all your senses!

Barrington Hall was built by Roswell King and his son, Barrington, during the 1830's when he acquired the land and began the Roswell Company. Barrington, president of the company, developed many successful cotton and woolen mills on the vast property.
After inviting other families to the area, it began to flourish and slowly developed into what we know today as the city of Roswell.
Barrington Hall was passed down from generation to generation until it was sold to the city during 2005 after undergoing an extensive and award-winning restoration.
Visitors may now tour the home to see many exquisite original details and furnishings.
