Discounts on Homeowners Insurance for Monitored Alarm Systems

There are many things to consider when deciding on whether to go with a monitored alarm system for your home.  The obvious benefits of course are the burglary and the fire protection, but another added benefit is that most homeowner insurance companies offer significant discounts on your policy if your alarm is monitored.
The discounts that insurance companies offer can be as much as 20%.  With those kind of discounts you will be able to offset the monitoring cost or a portion of the initial installation cost.  If it sounds to good to be true, well this time its not.  Insurance companies run on perceived risk which means that they try and determine how much of a liability you might be.  By installing a monitored alarm system in your home you are reducing the risk of loss at the home, therefore less money your insurance company might have to pay out in the future.  This in turn translates into more savings for you.
Another huge reason insurance companies like monitored alarm systems is because of the fire protection.  Fire and lightning claims out number theft claims 10 to 1.  They look at this like there is always someone home to call the fire department which cuts down on the possibility of a total loss of the property.
If you already have a monitored home alarm system and you are not getting your discount it is really easy to find out if your company offers it.   First you need t call your insurance provider and see if they offer a discount, if they do make sure you get an email or fax number from them.  Second call your alarm company and tell them you need an insurance certificate.  Your alarm company will either fax or email a detailed letter stating what kind of alarm system you have to your insurance company.  It is a really easy process so don't hesitate to get your discount.
