Blessed Trinity Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter Receives State Farm Grant

Roswell, GA (March 7, 2014) – The Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell has been selected to receive a $2,000 matching grant from State Farm® for its outstanding work in building affordable housing in partnership with low-income, wage-earning families.

A Habitat campus chapter is a student-led, student-initiated organization on a high school or college campus that partners with the local Habitat affiliate to build, fundraise, advocate and educate to support the work of Habitat for Humanity. The Blessed Trinity Campus Chapter partners with Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia and has raised nearly $100,000 over the years to help build homes.

“We are grateful to have been selected as one of the matching grant recipients,” said chapter president Anna Womick. “We have received a number of State Farm grants throughout the years, and this grant will help us to support the construction of another home for a family in our local community.”

Blessed Trinity Campus Chapter is one of 16 campus chapters to be awarded a matching grant from State Farm and must raise a matching amount. They have already raised well over $2,000 three months ahead of the May deadline.

“State Farm is committed to building safer, stronger and better educated communities,” said Barry Hancock, a State Farm agent in Roswell who, along with State Farm agent Joe Paul, presented the grant award to the Blessed Trinity Campus Chapter at its annual fundraiser, the Chariot film festival.  “We are extremely pleased to present this award to Blessed Trinity’s campus chapter in recognition of its service to the local community.”

State Farm has served as the national corporate sponsor of Habitat for Humanity’s youth programs since 2007.  Habitat-North Central Georgia has an active Youth United program, with over a dozen local high schools participating through fundraising and providing volunteer construction labor.  Last year, these schools raised over $37,000 to support Habitat-North Central Georgia’s mission to provide affordable housing for low- to moderate-income families in the communities served by the Habitat affiliate.

In addition to the Campus Chapter grant, Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia also received a $7,000 grant from the State Farm Foundation that will be used to help fund its family services program.
