Bulloch Hall's Magnolia Ball Takes Over Country Club of Roswell this Weekend

Tickets to the 26th Annual Magnolia Ball are still on sale through this afternoon.

Considering they followed a depression and opened upon a world war, the 1940s was a decade of modesty. And yet, it's an era that is still associated with an undeniable romance. This Saturday local residents will get the chance to travel back to those years when galas were a more regular affair during Bulloch Hall's 26th Annual Magnolia Ball at the Country Club of Roswell.

This year's ball, which benefits the preservation of Bulloch Hall, will take place Saturday, June 11 from 7 p.m. until midnight. The theme, “A Casablanca Evening” invites men to dress in white dinner jackets and women to don 40’s inspired evening gowns.

The dress code is a nod to the cafe in famous movie, Casablanca, according to Bulloch Hall spokesperson Janice Metzler.

The "romantic and elegant" evening will include cocktails, silent and live auctions shopping, dinner and dancing to the sounds of the Macon's famous “Grapevine” band.

"It will be a marvelously romantic evening; 'Here's looking at you kid,'" said Metzler.

Money raised through the event will go toward recreating the 1840’s service yard and the construction of the buildings which formed it.

According to Bulloch staff, the original site had two slave cabins and a carriage house. However, only one of the cabins has been fully reconstructed, while the other is currently on its way toward restoration. The goal this year is to begin construction on the carriage house.

"This will give us the opportunity to interpret the grounds of the house as it was in the mid 1800s," Metzler said.

The evening has been organized by chairman Bob Hagan, presenting sponsor Malon D. Mimms, Friends of Bulloch Board and the Magnolia Ball Committee.

Reservations for tickets to the Magnolia Ball can still be made, but only until this afternoon. Tickets cost $150 per person. Please call Pam Billingsley,  Site Coordinator, at 770-992-1731 ext. 2 for reservations.
