Dunwoody Nature Center to Host "Friday Night Hikes"

A special four-week program invites residents to the Nature Center on Fridays beginning Oct. 19 after hours.

Looking for some cheap entertainment on the weekends? Want to learn something about the natural world in Dunwoody in the middle of the cool fall weather and changing leaves?

The Dunwoody Nature Center is launching a special free program called "Friday Night Hikes."

The four week program starts Oct. 19, runs on Oct. 26, Nov. 2 and Nov. 9. The nature cnetre usually closes at sundown, this will give people the opportunity the rare chance to be in Dunwoody Park at night fall.

The family-oriented, non-strenous hikes will be led by Nature Center educators who will guide groups through the trails, wetlands and back forests with flashlights.

The hikes will offer people the chance to hear the parks' night sounds - owls, bats and the flow of Wildcat Creek, which cuts across the property.

After the hikes, participants can hang around the Nature Center's meadow to drink some hot cocoa, look at the stars through a telescope, and warn up next to the fireplace that is part of the original homestead at the center.

Hikes will start at 7 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. For any any questions, contact the Nature Center directly at (770) 394-3322.
