GA 400 Work Continues, Ramp Closing

A well-used ramp is getting a makeover.

The Abernathy Road northbound ramp to GA 400 will close for overnight paving beginning tonight (Friday), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced in a press release.

Crews will close the ramp from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday. During the closure traffic will be directed to use Hammond Drive to reach GA 400 north.

In an effort to improve merging onto GA 400 north, the ramp will be widened to two lanes and extended.

The contract for this work also includes a project underway in Forsyth County, where crews are extending the third lane northbound from its current end north of McGinnis Ferry Road to the Big Creek Greenway Bridge. This will eventually give commuters two new miles of roadway.

The work is expected to cost $3.37 million with a completion date of January 31, 2013.
