Get Out: 5 Things To Do This Weekend

There are many ways to enjoy the merry month of May: canoeing, running, or watching your kids play in the mud.

Why: Are you ready to start paddling but not sure of where to start? Join the Chattahoochee Nature Center to discover the basics of canoeing including boat basics and paddling techniques. Spend some time on one of the CNC’s ponds to practice your skills.

Where/When: 38 Hill St, Roswell, GA 30075, Saturday, May 14, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Why: The City of Alpharetta and the City of Roswell are pleased to present a one-day-only backyard compost bin and rain barrel distribution event. Items will be available for purchase at the city of Roswell City Hall Parking Lot located at 38 Hill Street. This exciting green initiative will feature Earth Machine™ Backyard Compost Bins and Systern Rain Barrels which will be available for $45 and $55, respectively (tax included). These are available on a first-come-first-served basis! A North Fulton Master Gardener will be there to discuss tips on how to make compost with this type of home composting unit.

Price: $45 and $55

Where/When: Chattahoochee Outfitters, 203 Azalea Dr, Roswell, GA 30075, Friday, May 13, Arrive at 6:15 p.m.

Why: A great way for couples, singles, and friends to spend a spring evening in Roswell. There is no place more serene than watching a sunset as you paddle along the beautiful Chattahoochee River. Ages 25 and up.

Price: $14, Roswell residents $21, non-Roswell residents

Where/When: 416 Dahlonega St, Cumming, GA 30040, May 14, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Why: There is nothing better than seeing children play in the mud, get dirty and not get into trouble for doing it! Capture some of the best childhood memories of your children with pictures that you will cherish for a lifetime!

Price: Session Fee is $35 ~ Packages start at $99

Where/When: Old Milton Parkway and Wills Road, Alpharetta, GA 30009 (Will Park Pool), Saturday, May 14, 7:15 a.m.

Why: Join the Alpharetta Rotary Club and the city of Alpharetta for the 15th Annual Mayor's Challenge.  The race is a 5K/10K Peachtree Qualifier for the serious runner as well as a Fun Run/Walk for the whole family. The proceeds go to support the community projects of the Alpharetta Rotary. 

Price: Early - $25 or $30 to add raffle ticket; $30 late, $40 with raffle ticket
