Get Out: Things To Do This Weekend

See a parades, enter a race or screen a movie, these are just a few of the things you could do this weekend.

Why Go?: Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department presents the 33rd Annual Old Solders Day Race. Sign up for the 5K or 10K race. On-site registration begins at 6 a.m. on race day. Event t-shirts are not guaranteed to race day registrants

Why Go?: This tradition will begin at city hall and will feature marching bands, military units, floats, clowns and classic cars. Free Varsity hot dogs, sodas and fun activities at the parade end at American Legion Post 201 on Wills Road.

Why Go?: Looking for fun family activities to participate in this summer? Want to treat the kids without breaking your budget? This special screening is for families raising children with special needs, Land O’ Lakes is pleased to sponsor a private screening of THE SMURFS as part of the SMG 2011 Special Needs Screening Series.

Price: Free for special needs children and their siblings

Where/When: , 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell, GA 30075 (Ben Brady Lakeside Pavilion), Saturday. Aug. 6, 11 a.m. – 12 noon

Why Go?: Julie Austin’s upbeat music with guitar, ukulele, jawharp and storytelling is guaranteed to have your hands clapping, feet tapping and fingers snapping! Enjoy Julie’s interactive concert with songs, sign language and musical storytelling. Julie is a dynamic, energetic presenter and performer with over twenty years experience giving concerts for children and families. Using storytelling, songs and movement, Julie encourages children’s active participation. She has released six award-winning children’s recordings. Her most recent CD, “Fandagumbo”, won a Parent’s Choice Award. Julie is a Wolf Trap Master artist and has been a teacher trainer, consultant and preschool teacher with the High/Scope Foundation. Based in Georgia, she travels nationally and internationally. Her enthusiasm, musical expertise and love of creating community through music make her a favorite of audiences everywhere.

Price: $8 general admission, $5 for children, $6 for seniors, CNC members and children 2 and under Free

Where/When: 575 Riverside Road, Roswell, GA 30075 (Riverside Park), Saturday Aug. 6, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Why Go: An outdoor summer concert series at Riverside Park on the first Saturday of the month presented by the Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department of the City of Roswell. Food is available for purchase at the concession stand or you may bring your own. Blankets and chairs are welcome and seating is on a first come, first served basis. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be cancelled.

Where/When: , 11070 Alpharetta Highway, Roswell, Aug. 7, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Why Go?: Caffeine and Octane is an all makes and all models car show that regularly attracts over 500 muscle, classic and exotic cars. Shows are held the first Sunday of each month.
