Have You Met...Karen Monroe?

This week, we're meeting Karen Monroe from Albany, Georgia.

1.  What is your profession and why did you choose it? I am a television producer at The Weather Channel.  I'm not a meteorologist, though, but a journalist.  I chose the field because from a very young age, I had a passion for writing.  When I got to college and began the daunting task of picking a major, I tried a few others before I settled on journalism.  During one particularly hectic final exam week, I realized I actually liked deadline pressure.  Having to do multiple projects and study for exams in short periods of time was sort of a way of having nerdy fun for me.  When I did an internship at WSB-TV, I learned that the person who juggles all the stories in a newscast and works to make sure it all goes together is the producer.  From that first, basic impression of producing, I was hooked.  A producer was born.

2.  What do you like most about living in the area? One of the things I like the most about living in the Atlanta area is that there are always new and interesting things to do.  If you want to try virtually any kind of food, you can find it in Atlanta. We're a city of restaurants.  But of course there's a lot more to Atlanta than eating.  I like how you can seek out different areas and there are so many that you pretty much can find your particular scene and have a good time.  Of course, this is where it all started for me.  I went to college in the area and having moved away for several years, Atlanta was like this big, southern, sprawling hug when I came back.  Now that I am closer to my friends and family, Atlanta is even sweeter to me.

3.  What is your life motto? "My motto is:  'Life's not about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.' by Vivian Greene."
