Jeb Edmondson Awarded Eagle Scout in Troop 226

First scout attain Eagle in newly created Roswell Boy Scout Troop.

Jeb Edmondson, a freshman at Centennial High School and member of Boy Scout Troop 226 in Roswell, Georgia, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Oct. 25, 2012.

Edmondson has participated in scouting for nine years, from the rank of Tiger in 1st grade through to earning the highest award in boy scouts. He is the first scout to earn his Eagle rank out of Troop 226 in Roswell, which was established one year ago and will celebrate his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Jan. 29.

Edmondson designed his Eagle Project to support Beats, Inc.—a local hippotherapy institute. Hippotherapy is a form of physical, occupational and speech therapy in which a therapist uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input. The sensory trail will provide sensory input which benefits many disabilities, including children in the autism spectrum."Beats, Inc. lacked the proper trail to give patients the experience they need. Edmondson worked over five months to create the project, leading a team of over 25 people last October to create twelve stations on a trail to teach patients the use of all their senses.

“We were so excited to have the sensory trail for our special needs children. The trail provides an added tool to their therapy sessions and the kids and horses love getting to play outside,” said Bernie DeWit, OTR/L, from Beats, Inc.

During his time as a scout, Edmondson has held a number of leadership positions, including Den Chief, Librarian, Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, and Order of the Arrow Representative. He is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society. Edmondson has completed two youth religious awards and is working on his 3rd (Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, and working on Ad Altare Dei), as well as earning 34 merit badges and the World Conservation Award. Edmondson will continue in boy scouting throughout the remainder of his high school years and plans to attend his 2nd National Scout Jamboree in 2013.
