Sometimes, in between the movies, the circus and the zoo, I forget that it's the little things that can capture a kid's attention. For example, my kids think the is the most exciting place on earth - especially the one on Crabapple Road.
We pull in and they get to tell me where to park. Then we order grilled cheese sandwiches, apple slices and milk. We play I Spy while we wait. And then, lo and behold, a carhop brings us the food on roller skates. The kids get to eat in the car, which is a rare treat. And I like it because they feel like they're having an adventure, but I'm not banking on their excellent behavior in a "real" restaurant, which can be questionable with a two-year-old and a four-year-old.
Bonus: On Wednesdays, the kids' meals at the Crabapple Sonic are only $1.99 and that includes your choice of entrees, sides and drinks. It's reasonably healthy, for fast food, not to mention fun and easy.

On our way home we drive by the Crabapple fire station and they cheer. I get to be Mom-of-the-Year and I don't even have to get out of the car.
