Free Multi-Cultural Dinner to Benefit International Missions

Cross of Life Lutheran Church in Roswell will host its third annual "Language of Love" dinner, Oct. 6.

Next weekend, Cross of Life Lutheran Church in Roswell will host its third annual “Language of Love” dinner to benefit its missions in Africa, The Philippines and India.

The evening, which is free and open to the community, will include food from around the world, multi-cultural entertainment, silent and live auctions.

Funds raised by the auctions will be donated to three of the church’s charitable causes, including:

  • Malawi Mission in Southeast Africa—For the purchase of bicycles to provide much-needed transportation for the area’s pastors, as well as sewing machines to help the women improve their livelihood;
  • Galing Foundation in Mindanao, The Philippines—A seven year-old organization that helps educate the region’s 3,000 children by covering the high costs of shipping new and gently used books and school supplies, which are donated by the church, local schools and public libraries.
  • Padhar Mission School in Central India—To contribute to students’ tuition, as well as to assist with the costs of operating and maintaining the school, which opened in 1903 and has over 30,000 graduates.

The evening will begin with the silent auction, during which refreshments will be served, followed by a welcome message that will include blessings in various languages. Dinner will feature dishes from far and wide.

“Attendees will be treated to song and dance by a number of musicians,” said Janine Dismer, co-chair for the church’s social concerns ministry. “We’ll have a performance by native Filipino Toni Daya-Luetgers, who gained fame as a singer in Manila, but now devotes her time to family, community activism and management of the Galing Foundation, Inc. Other highlights will include songs and dance of Germany, Malawi and a selection by Gary Halverson, a professional who many locals know from his performances at the Dogwood Festival.

The “Language of Love” event will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the church, which is located at 1000 Hembree Road in Roswell, just one-quarter mile west of Highway 9/Alpharetta Highway. There is no cost, but reservations are required.
