Nature Center Begins Summer Canoe Trips Down Chattahoochee

The latest activity is an adventure in relaxation. You never know what you might encounter as you unwind with a canoe trip down our famous local river.

Learn about the ecology and history of the Chattahoochee River Watershed under the guidance of trained naturalists during the center's sunset or sunrise voyages down the river. Discover things you never knew during the trip. For instance, did you know that Chattahoochee River means "River of the Painted Rock" in Creek, one of the tribes native to the area?  

Each trip naturalist led trip offers a unique introduction to the habitats and mysteries of the Chattahoochee River. Encounter a beaver, herons fishing for food, darting kingfishers, gliding hawks and other wildlife as you casually make your way downstream.

Canoe trips begin in May and run Saturdays and Sundays starting from 6 p.m. until dusk.  During June, July and August, trips will run on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., as well as Sundays at 6 p.m. Select Fridays evenings are also available for special occasion family trips and date nights. 

All equipment is provided. Participants, ages 6 and up, must be able to swim and paddle their own canoe. No prior canoeing experience is necessary.  

The two and a half hour trips cost $30 for general public and $25 for members of the Chattahoochee Nature Center. All trips are “conditions permitting”, with advance reservations required.

June 17: Date Night! Canoe Trip for Adults Only - Come early, stay late! Bring a picnic, enjoy the grounds and go on a hike on one of CNC’s many trails!

Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 19: Family Canoe Day 10 – 11:30 a.m. It’s Get Outdoors Day!  Join us to discover the basics of canoeing including boat basics and paddling techniques.  Spend some time on one of CNC’s ponds to practice your newly-acquired skills.  Ages 5 – Adult. This popular program always fills, so schedule your trip early. $15 Non-Members, $10 Members (price is per person; book a third seat in a canoe and get half off.). 

JULY

August 7 and 21: Canoe Rentals 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. Try out canoeing on the pond!  CNC will have a canoe guide to assist you as you explore the wildlife that inhabits one of CNC’s three ponds! Ages 5 – Adult.  $10 Non-Members/$5 Members (price per person for 30-minutes) 

August 20: Family Canoe Day 10 – 11:30 a.m. Join us to discover the basics of canoeing including boat basics and paddling techniques.  Spend some time on one of CNC’s ponds to practice your newly-acquired skills.  Spaces fill fast so register early! Ages 5 – Adult, $15 Non-Members, $10 Members (price is per person; book a third seat in a canoe and get half off).
