Rockin' at the River Raises Funds for Nature Center

The Chattahoochee Nature Center will hold its second annual event this Saturday, May 7, to raise program funding.

Get ready to rock out - in the most elegant way possible. The Chattahoochee Nature Center’s "Rockin' at the River" event returns to the banks of Roswell's famous river once again this Saturday, May 7.

This year's event theme: "Come Shake Your Tail Feathers" hints at the promise of a lively evening.

"This is a unique event that allows guests to stroll the beautifully lighted gardens at [the Chattahoochee Nature Center]," said DeAnn Fordham, CNC development director.

According to Fordham, guests will enjoy cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, dancing and several auction opportunities while listening to southern music and learning about native Georgia wildlife through live animal encounters with the center's naturalists. Guests will also be treated to a tour of the newly certified Gold LEED Discovery Center.

The event committee is co-chaired by CNC Board of Trustee members, Brooke Dickerson and Sally Riker, and includes Lisa Hyde, Mid and Diana Thorne, Bob Hagan and Lou Tabickman.

It will be "a spectacular evening that raises critical funds for CNC’s environmental education programs,” Dickerson said, in a statement about the event.

The mostly outdoor event also features a live-auction for three extraordinary and unique items including a private jet trip valued at $8,000 for two nights and up to six people within an 800 mile radius to locations such as Nassau, Cancun, New York, New Orleans, or Key West. Other auction items include a 26.47 carat Cabochon-cut Australian Black Opal necklace, which weighs approximately 30.61 grams; and a 10 day Amazon rainforest trip for two valued at over $7,000.

The CNC expects more than 300 people from the community to attend, including leaders within both the corporate and political realms.

Sponsors and Patrons are invited to arrive at 6:30 p.m. for a VIP reception on the Plaza. Patrons will enjoy an exclusive performance by acoustic guitarists, Travis Riker and Francisco Vidal from the band, Odd Man Out.

Patron tickets are $250 per person and general admission tickets are $125 per person. For information on sponsorships or tickets, contact DeAnn Fordham at 770-992-2055, extension 226.
