Roswell 4th Graders Raise Money for OK Tornado Victims

The Sweet Apple Elementary students will donate $400 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Cameron Koporc and Lily Picquet kicked off their summer vacation Tuesday morning just like plenty of rising fourth graders do - running a lemonade and donut stand.

But unlike many of their peers, Koporc and Picquet weren't raising money to buy a puppy or earn spending money for summer camp. Instead, they plan to donate the $400 they raised during their four-hour endeavor to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for victims of the Moore, OK tornados.

"Both girls were deeply moved to help when they learned that all student victims at Plaza Towers Elementary School were, like them, third graders," Amie Koporc, Cameron's mother, told Roswell Patch.

Koporc said the girls realized how scary the tornados must have been for the Oklahoma students when they remembered taking cover with their Sweet Apple Elementary class during a tornado siren earlier this year.
