Roswell Dentist, Chiropractor To 'Buy Back' Candy for Troops

Atlanta Dental Spa will pay $1 per pound up to 10 pounds.

This week dentists and doctors across the country will "buy-back" Halloween candy from children in their communities and then send the candy to U.S. military deployed in combat through Operation Gratitude.

In Roswell, the dentists at and will buy back Halloween candy.

The dental office will pay $1 per pound up to 10 pounds and the chiropractic office will also pay $1 per pound up to five pounds for candy to send to the troops, who eat some candy themselves and also hand it out to children in the communities they patrol.

Not only does the "buy back" benefit soldiers, but researchers have estimated that 16.9 percent of children and adolescents ages two to nine are obese, while 31.7 percent are overweight. So avoidance of candy overeating helps local children.

"Sugar can suppress the body's immune system, reducing it's ability to kill germs by 40 percent," said a statement from Historic Roswell Chiropractic. "Sugar can cause hyperactivity, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and crankiness in children."
