Roswell Historical Society To Honor Cherokee Nation

The organization on Saturday will dedicate a memorial to honor the Cherokee Nation's history in the city.

The Roswell Historical Society will dedicate a Memorial to honor the Cherokee Nation and its years in Roswell this weekend.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday, July 19, at the Riverside Park stage area.

There will be a formal opening of the memorial, honored guests from the Cherokee Nation will be in attendance and exhibits and demonstrations will be available throughout the park after the ceremony. 

The ceremony is free and open to the public.  Shown choosing the boulders that will be used in the Memorial are Roswell Historical Society President Johanna Harned, Project Manager Steve McMichen and Cherokee Committee Chair Cindi Crane.

The boulders will have 8 plaques telling the history of the Cherokee Indians in Roswell. The plaques were written by Cindi Crane and vetted by the Cherokee Nation, the Trail of Tears Association and the National Park Service.
