Roswell Library Needs Lego Donations

Donate new or gently used Legos to the library for a new Lego club starting this fall.

Does your child love Legos? There's a club for that.

The staff at the are excited to begin a new Lego club this fall, but in order to do so, they need help getting started.

"We are in need of Legos," said Louise Conti, branch manager at Roswell Library.

Obviously a critical element in beginning a Lego club, donated Legos are a necessity to get the idea off the ground and keep costs down.

"We've had a couple of donations so far, but we need a lot more," said Conti. "We are looking for gently used Legos, in sets or used."

She also cautioned against donating Legos you may potentially want back, since recovery of your donation will be next to impossible once the Legos become part of the library's  collection. Additionally, the library will only accept Legos, not DUPLOS.

Once the Lego collection is in place, the Lego club will meet every fourth Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m., beginning August 23. Each month the club, which is open to children ages 6-10, will have a theme. For instance, when the monthly theme is robots, children will use the hour long club meeting to work as individuals or on teams constructing Lego masterpieces geared toward robots.

A show-and-tell will follow each session, according to Conti.

"The interest in the program has been overwhelming," she said. We are expecting 30 [to] 40 kids at the program, so we'll need enough Legos to accommodate them."
