Roswell PD Warns of Graphic Child Pornography Facebook Video

The Roswell Police Department says these types of videos have gone viral on social media.

The Roswell Police Department is warning local residents about a viral video containing child pornography that is being circulated through Facebook.

"We have one reported case of it here; however the FBI is already aware of this," said RPD Spokeswoman Lisa Holland.

Officers reported the video to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children after it was brought to their attention. Reportedly, Facebook users are sent a link that says something along the lines of "watch this if you are curious." The link does not represent itself as child pornography. Authorities warn that headings or titles could change and users should be aware of suspicious titles.

Once it is clicked on, the virus replicates and is sent to people in the person’s Facebook friends list. This video will then show up on your news feed as a result of one of your Facebook friends having clicked on the video to view it as previously mentioned.

So how can local residents avoid seeing the video?

"The best advice that we can give is to keep your kids off of Facebook," said Holland.

She said adults should not click on a link from someone they don't know, if it's in a different language, has a vague discription attached or anything that may use the word "curiosity."

"These are all red flags," Holland said.

FoxNews.com reported this week that while the video is at least seven years old, authorities are still searching for the perpetractor they say is known as John Doe 8.

If you receive a video on your news feed that looks suspicious or inappropriate report the matter to Facebook or local authorities. Roswell Police, the FBI and Facebook are all aware of the virus.
