Roswell Remember 9/11: The Day That 'Every Tennis Shoe and Sneaker was Sold Out' in NYC

Local resident Abby Rush remembers the surreal day she found out she was in a city being attacked by terrorists.

What follows are the thoughts and memories of Abby Rush, a Roswell resident. She looks back at a business trip that turned terrifying.

"I was there on business with Federated Department Stores at 11 Penn Plaza; 28 weeks pregnant with my first child.

I could barely get a phone line out of New York City so I called someone at work, who called my husband. My friend at work in Atlanta told me we were being attacked by terrorists. I really didn't even believe it.

When we were allowed to leave the building I bought newspapers and still have them. Every tennis shoe and sneaker was sold out at Macy's Herald Square and there wasn't one taxi in NYC times square; that was the strangest part.

People were quiet.

Though the company handled it quite well, it took some time to find a bus to charter out of the city. In the meanwhile there were bomb threats constantly. "
