Roswell Water Festival Returns in May

The annual festival will give residents a chance to learn more about its local drinking water.

The city of Roswell's annual Drinking Water Festival and Water Plant Open House will return in less than a month's time.

The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Cecil B. Wood Drinking Water Plant at 100 Dobbs Drive.

This year, the free event will introduce a new activity, “The Amazing Roswell Water Race." The game will include teams of 2-6 people who will compete in a water-inspired scavenger hunt for a chance to win prizes.

Modeled after the popular TV show "The Amazing Race," this local version will feature clues about drinking water, water quality and water conservation. Prizes will include family passes to SkyZone, the Chattahoochee Nature Center and more.

Families with children of all ages, as well as youth groups, scout troops and other student groups, are encouraged to participate. Along with the water race, guests can also symbolically break ground on the city's new water plant by grabbing a shovel, throwing on a construction hat and taking a picture in a designated area. Kid-friendly props will be available.

Attendees also can tour the water plant to learn more about the source of their drinking water and how it is treated. Participants will enjoy a free cookout and learn about water conservation practices and the Roswell's toilet rebate program. Guests can also get an up-close, hands-on experience exploring Roswell’s Water Utility Truck.

“Few of us stop to think about and appreciate where our drinking water comes from and the process it goes through to get to us,” said Vicki Culbreth, water conservation coordinator with Roswell’s Water Utility. “This festival is a fun and family-friendly way to focus on how the City maintains a safe and sustainable drinking water supply.”

The event will locally kick off National Drinking Water Week, which is set for May 5-11. The week is sponsored by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and an alliance of organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

It's designed to provide a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to come together in recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives and the need to reinvest in our water infrastructure.

Limited parking is available. Residents who plan to attend are asked to park at 105 Dobbs Drive instead of the water plant.
