Smith Plantation to Host 20th Anniversary Celebration

The historic home will celebrate begin open to the public for two decades on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The is planning a special celebration on Saturday, Oct. 15 to mark the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the historic house museum to the public.

The Smith Plantation, an original 1840’s plantation site built by one of Roswell’s founding fathers, Archibald Smith, features original family furnishings and twelve original outbuildings.

A special ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. to dedicate the planting of a new white oak tree - replacing the one that fell on the caretaker’s cottage during 1996 - in honor of Dr. James Lister Skinner for his contributions in preserving the home, history and collections of the Smith Family. The home is now owned by the city of Roswell.

In honor of the day, the home - which is located in historic Roswell at 935 Alpharetta Street, adjacent to the Roswell Municipal complex - will be open for free from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with special historic exhibits and demonstrations marking the home’s history as a house museum.
