TIps to Save Water This Holiday Season

The city of Roswell breaks down exactly how to prevent your water bill from skyrocketing this holiday season.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, but you may disagree when you get that water bill.

Did you know that a typical holiday turkey dinner for eight needs more than 42,000 gallons of water in food growth and preparation? With more parties, guests and food preparation occurring during the holidays, usage can go up. Here are a few tips from the city of Roswell to help curb your homes water usage.

  • For cold drinks keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap. This way, every drop goes down you and not the drain.
  • Designate one glass for your drinking water each day. This will cut down on the number of times you run your dishwasher.
  • Soak pots and pans instead of running water while you scrape them.
  • Cut back on rinsing if your dishwasher is new. Newer models clean more thoroughly than older ones.
  • Throw trimmings and peelings from fruits and vegetables into your yard compost to prevent from using the garbage disposal.
  • Thaw meat in the refrigerator, not in water.
  • Make sure you have aerators on all sinks, low flow shower-heads and high efficiency toilets.
