World War II Veterans Honored by Roswell Rotary, Sen. Albers

A group of 60 local veterans took a trip to Washington D.C. last Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Rotary Club of Roswell recognized a group of 60 World War II Veterans for their outstanding service to our country last through the Roswell Rotary Honor Air Program on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The program is a branch of the rotary’s charitable foundation dedicated to honoring Georgia’s military heroes. Through this program, veterans are given the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. and tour the World War II Memorial on a complimentary day trip.

Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell) joined Rotary in thanking the veterans, who were provided free airfare, bus transportation, food and beverages and medical assistance for the special trip.

"It is my honor and privilege to recognize these courageous veterans for their outstanding service during World War II," said Albers, prior to the annual flight. "As our veterans journey to our nation’s capital, I wish to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for their efforts to secure freedom and liberty for millions of people around the globe. I would also like to applaud the Roswell Rotary Honor Air program for providing this opportunity for our nation’s greatest heroes, and supporting American patriotism."

Prior to their departure, the group of World War II Veterans were greeted by members of the Roswell Rotary and received letters of distinction from Albers.

During their trip to our nation’s capital, the veterans toured several historical sites, including the Word War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. They were also given the opportunity to visit Arlington National Cemetery, where they visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and experienced the Changing of the Guard Ceremony.
