Ballads, Blues and Broadway presented by The Michael O'Neal Singers
The Great American Songbook is a term that refers to the interrelated music of Broadway musical theatre, Hollywood musicals, and Tin Pan Alley. The music ranges from the 1920s to the 1960s and includes hundreds of songs of enduring popularity. The music became a vital part of the repertoire of such singers as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett and their songs are often described today merely as “jazz standards.” MOS, accompanied by a professional jazz ensemble, will conclude the season with this program of popular music. The Great American Songbook is a term that refers to the interrelated music of Broadway musical theatre, Hollywood musicals, and Tin Pan Alley.
