Carmina Burana

The Michael O'Neal Singers present Carl Orff's Carmina burana, one of the most popular pieces in the classical music repertoire.  The opening and closing movement, “O Fortuna”, has been used in countless films and commercials and has become a symbol of the “epic” song in popular culture.  Written in 1935-36 and using 12th and 13th century poems in medieval Latin, German and French, the work caused an absolute sensation at its 1937 premiere in Frankfurt, Germany.  Repetitions of small units of rhythm and melody were combined with simple harmonies using virtually no counterpoint and polyphony – creating a work that is considered unique even today.

MOS will be using the rarely heard chamber instrumentation which includes two grand pianos, timpani, and five additional percussionists, and will collaborate with The Georgia Regional Girls Choir and members of Roswell Dance Theatre for this performance.  With Sherri Seidan, Adam Kirkpatrick and Brent Davis, soloists.
